With him, though, it was clear that he just didn't like the coach being tough on him for screwing around. Also, he's used to things going so easy for him. I was conflicted as to "pushing" him to continue, but I knew in that case it wasn't for me. It was for him. So far so good. He's a happy Yellow Belt. We have the understanding that by Green - next one - he can stop any time. By then, I'm pretty sure he'll want to stick it out, but it's his choice. And yes, he's only 8! This isn't a competition.andrea frazerhttp://www.lifehappins.com/parenting--family.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3271931822987740572.post-64777408638274553252011-06-12T13:55:19.884-07:002011-06-12T13:55:19.884-07:00Sweet post, JCK! I think many kids hit their limit and are forced to continue a sport by parents who are too invested, either emotionally or financially, and won't let their children take a break. It is a sad situation for everyone. I read a very interesting article about young swimmers. They have found that kids who are the fastest swimmers in the 12 and under years often do not continue to win races when they move into their teens. The writer believed that there were various reasons for this but the one that really made sense to me is that some of these kids are just pushed too hard to be "winners" and they lose the desire to swim. I think that is a very sad situation. Kids should love the things they do! They have their whole adulthood to plod through activities that they HAVE to do.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17319951305724993484noreply@blogger.com
