THAT hamster wheel

I'm not sure what is going on this morning. The sun hasn't come up yet and I'm finding myself teary and at a loss of what to say. Not something that happens all that often. I think...I KNOW that I've been hopping on that hamster wheel of no return...mom-wife-errand runner-must pack for weekend trip-another 3 loads of laundry- and now I have to fold it!-haven't yet-still more errands to run-make sandwiches-leave pet instructions-get the oil changed in the car-and I can't get off the ride because I'm in charge-bring GIRL to school for 1 hour so she won't miss her first show-and-tell at the new school-before we leave for our 6 hour drive to my mom's-where it will be fantastic to see everyone-but, because I've worn myself out-I came down with a bloody cold last night-... THAT hamster wheel. DEEP BREATH. Yep, that about sums it up. And does anyone have a kleenex?

Of course all of this could be explained by the current state of our country which appears to be going to hell in a handbasket. Whether it is being told that we're now responsible for a deficit that has more zeros than I can possibly add up myself, or that someone running for office can play tiddly winks with Russia by looking out her kitchen window from Alaska...honestly, I'm not sure that I'm really awake. Am I? Unfortunately, I think I am. And guess what? We're all in this hot tub together. So, move over honey and let go of your germ phobia.

I'm going up north for a couple of days to celebrate the birthday of a wonderful man, whom I am lucky enough to call my step-father. While I'm gone make yourself at home here.

  2. I'm so with you on the terror that I'm just barely keeping contained on the possibilities of what is happening with this country.

Sleep in the car and let your mom take care of you. Also, I swear by Zycam nasal swabs at the first sign of a cold. I haven't had one in 3 years even when those around me are dropping like flies.

  5. OH, my....so much going on. I agree; hope you can kick back and enjoy being with family this weekend and forget about the state of the nation, politics etc. It'll all be there when you get back from a much needed break. We'll keep an eagle eye out and do what we can while you get some "away time". OK?

  6. I think a change of scenery will do you good.
    Have a good time.

I know I am not handling the stress of the election and the economy - like - AT ALL. I am just so worried all the time. No, make that: panicked all the time.

  9. have a nice trip, and YES, i have tons of Kleenex, and let me tell you that Afrin no drip nasal mist (don't get the spray, get the MIST) is the best thing EVER for unstuffing that nose. I don't know how I ever lived without it!

  10. It's a sad fact that in times of serious stress, our immune system gores down the toilet. Hope you feel better soon :)

  11. I've been feeling that way the past couple days - I want my mommy! Sometimes I feel like I am the only mom who is so completely out of sorts. The only mom that just cannot figure out how to get the laundry done, or find time to get my hair cut. I think us moms need to be open about this, instead of pretending to be super woman all the time.

    Have a wonderful trip!

  12. Every mom deserves to get away. So run for the hills! Kick up your heels and enjoy your family.

I was having very similar feelings last night and this afternoon. All the duties, the never ending duties of momhood. Sigh.

  14. I hope you have a good trip and your step-dad really has a great birthday surrounded by all those that love him. All these scary political/economic issues give us an uneasiness in the pit of our stomachs...but let's just focus on relationships and love right now...it may be the only thing we can control and certainly the focus will bring an increase and comfort = even when outside forces make things uncomfortable!

  17. Hope you had a wonderful time off of your wheel and out of your cage. It sounds lovely. A new change of scenery always DOES a body good.

  18. So been there, done that. Never thought of it as a hamster wheel, more as ongoing fight where I absorb the punches and dodge whenever necessary.
